Texto preparado para o Seminário Internacional sobre Modelos Avaliativos (SEE/SP, FCC, apoio Banco Mundial). A autora, ao analisar a problemática do desempenho escola, oferece considerações bastante pertinentes sobre a natureza dos resultados de uma avaliação, a disseminação dos dados coletados de diversas fontes para os vários públicos interessados, a importância dos objetivos e as decisões políticas que são tomadas ao longo do processo de avaliação, discutindo importantes aspectos controversos das estatísticas e das medidas educacionais.
