Educación superior de corta duración: la experiencia norteamericana de los community colleges

Resumen

El artículo describe inicialmente el lugar del community college en el sistema de educación superior norteamericano. Narra su origen, crecimiento, las fuentes de ingreso, así como su articulación con las demás instituciones de educación superior. En seguida, registra algunos de los problemas del sistema – al lado de la ampliación del acceso, los análisis han señalado la fragilidad del éxito, es decir, del desempeño de los estudiantes, así como de la equidad, o sea, la flerte estratificación y jerarquización del sistema educativo norteamericano. De este modo, se argumenta que los dilemas y problemas no se localizan estrictamente en el sistema escolar, sino en una formación social en que la desigualdad es particularmente aguda.
