Em 1956, Bloom e seus colaboradores publicavam nos Estados Unidos, uma Taxionomia de Objetivos Educacionais para domínio das operações intelectuais. Definida como "classificação dos comportamentos do aluno que representam resultados esperados do processo educacional" (Bloom, 1972, pág.11), sua estrutura compreendia seis classes principais, dispostas uma hierarquia de complexidade crescente.
