Abstract

A proposta deste artigo é desenvolver algumas ideias que possam contribuir para o debate sobre o ensino médio no Brasil, a partir das condições existentes nas instituições, das políticas educacionais em curso e dos desafios colocados pela realidade social, econômica e política. Discutem-se aqui a importância política, social e econômica da expansão e obrigatoriedade do ensino médio, o caráter cultural da escola e sua relação com a chamada “sociedade do conhecimento”, o papel do ensino médio para a juventude, as novas demandas para os docentes, entre outros.
