Abstract

O trabalho consiste na análise de cerca de 550 relatos feitos por professores primários da periferia da cidade de São Paulo, sobre dificuldades encontradas na sala de aula. As dificuldades são de natureza didático-pedagógica ou se referem a problemas de comportamento do aluno. O estudo evidencia os conflitos provenientes da confrontação de dois modos de vida urbanos: o representado pela escola, por intermédio de seu professor, um indivíduo pertencente às camadas médias da população, e o vivenciado pelos alunos, provenientes em sua maioria, das camadas populares. São analisados alguns dos recursos utilizados pela instituição escolar para a transmissão de valores, expectativas e aspirações peculiares a determinados grupos ou classes sociais.
