A dependência da criança relativamente aos adultos torna prioritária a questão da responsabilidade materno-paterna. Neste artigo pretendo discutir os requisitos para a construção de uma cidadania democrática do ponto de vista de que o sentimento de justiça é fruto de uma vivência de amor e proteção na infância. É a partir de seus relacionamentos concretos com outras pessoas, especialmente aquelas com quem convive mais intensamente, que a criança terá ou não um sentimento de justiça. A garantia de uma infância feliz remete, por sua vez, ao estatuto da maternidade, às responsabilidades paterno-maternas e ao eventual papel do Estado.
