A criança escrava na literatura de viagens

A partir da análise de cerca de 80 obras cujos autores estiveram no Rio de Janeiro entre 1800 e 1850, são destacados, do contexto geral da sociedade escravocrata da época, os dados referentes à situação da criança negra, seja como "mercadoria" recém-importada da África, seja como fruto dareprodução da população já escravizada. A transcrição de trechos de relatos dos viajantes europeus revelam, em toda sua crueza, as condições em que eram mantidas as crianças, seu relacionamento com a mãe, com os patrões, com o trabalho e o valor que possuíam enquanto "mercadoria".Downloads
