Abstract

O artigo analisa o projeto do decreto-lei "Estatuto da Família", de autoria de Gustavo Capanema, na década de 30. Embora assinado por Getúlio Vargas, o projeto não chegou a ser promulgado e a polêmica que se criou em torno dele, polarizando alguns dos setores mais conservadores da sociedade àquela época, entre eles a Igreja, reflete a importância da normatização da família para o Estado autoritário.
