Resumo

O presente trabalho apresenta o esquema do novo sistema de qualidade da educação infantil implementado na Austrália, relatando a pesquisa que foi designada para configurar a avaliação e a pontuação de desempenho com base nos padrões acordados. As etapas da implementação foram planejadas para assegurar a validade, a confiabilidade e a aplicação consistente do instrumento de avaliação em todo o país. Evidências preliminares foram apresentadas nos resultados desse processo de avaliação da qualidade. Questões e processos relativos à implementação revelam as principais áreas que merecem atenção quando um país se empenha em melhorar a qualidade de seus serviços de educação e cuidados infantis, especialmente em sociedades que apresentam um sistema complexo, com diferentes níveis de governo e em que a população é composta de grupos culturais, linguísticos e étnicos diversos.
